Wm. Lewis Byers, Jr.- Who is he and why is he running for City Council ?

This question can best be answered by me, Lewis Byers, Jr.  I have witnessed the oppressed state of our community which is a state not often seen by outsiders.  I know what is needed to correct this situation and to bring our community together.  You may think that sounds like every other candidate, but I live and also work in this community.  The youth of this community call me "Unkel L".  To them, I am a steet role model because I take the time to listen and show respect for their highs and lows of life, while trying to guide them in the right direction.  The elders and more seasoned members of the community just call me Lewis.  They love my business, motivation, love for the community and sense of ideal for what the community could become.

I have lived in the Northeast Community and District 2 for many years.  I am a graduate of James B. Dudley High School and the Guilford County School system.  I have owned and operated a small but successful barbershop for nine years.  As a barber in this  communtiy, I hear and see the many problems and pitfalls of this community.  For the past seven years, I have hosted a community cookout each summer where the residents come together and get to know each other.  This cookout brings positive people and positive thing to a place which is often left out or left behind other communities and neighborhoods.

I want to bring the same sense of security and prosperity to District 2 that other areas of Greenboro often  take for granted.  I want District 2 to be a district that everyone talks about in a positive way instead of negatively.

I have many ideas for bettering the community and impacting the lives both of our children and long-time residents.  I want to bridge the gap btween the young and old get them together as a family.  For example, a performing arts center could encourage the youth of the community to participate in the creative processes of the arts while providing a much needed entertainment venue in the district.  There is a huge resource of creative energy located in this district and I intend to gather it and focus it in a positive direction for the betterment of everyone in the district and the City of Greensboro.

Meet me the polls on October 11, 2005 for the primary and cast your vote for me, Wm. Lewis Byers, Jr.  If we don’t wake up and vote on october 11, 2005, we’ll have no voice on Noverber 8, 2005 and no choice but to lay down and be quiet.
